Hairs some new blogs

January 20th, 2006 by Terry

Occasionally I try to read some press releases talking about new blogs. My assumption is that if someone spends the time and effort to write a press release about a blog, it had better be good. Not just wow look what I can do for free with blogger.

So I am looking at two new blogs that did press releases about themselves. One from PBS looking at how new media is changing society, which has promise but not much content. And then there is Bills Blog on Hair Replacement.

My first thought is that I am lucky to be alive in a time when such a plethora of information is available to me at the click of a button. Screw moveable type and the printing press. Blogs are the true measure of man’s pursuit of knowledge.

But I digress. Are these blogs any good? PBS is written by Bill Glasser. I really like the look and feel of blog. Good graphics. Only a couple of stories (unless earthshatteringly different, I like announced blogs to already be full of content which is written and ready in time for the launch). But Glasser is a well known entity, and his take on the subject in two stories kept me reading. I am curious how he is going to separate this blog from all the rest talking about the same thing, but I think it is a good start.

Now onto the blog for the follically challenged. Now I am not making fun of business here. My family is full of bald folks and I’ll be one of them. But as announceable blogs go, this needs just a little work. But I do see some potential here. It needs to move away from being just an ad for the company a bit, but I like how they had stories actually giving hair care advice. And I loved the “have a good hair day” ending. If I were a customer I would trust these guys.

But again, if you are going to announce a blog, have it chock full of content. There is an expectation that a blog press release brings in traffic. You want that to be repeat traffic. So give the reader a great first impression. But definitely on the right track I think.

I assume you’re ragging on old school movable type, not Movable Type the blogging tool.
