The upside of tech acquisitions
February 8th, 2006 by Tony Sapienza
In recent years, many in the Greater Boston area — long a hotbed for technology companies and innovation — were concerned that the region was losing its power base with the spike in acquisitions of Massachusetts-based tech companies. In fact, we’re finding that these acquisitions have given Massachusetts an even more significant role in the technology arena, establishing and/or expanding the presence of tech industry leaders like IBM, Microsoft and HP in the Bay State.
This has also created opportunities for Boston’s tech PR firms –- particularly entrepreneurial agencies like Topaz who are working with the smaller companies being acquired by “the giants.” This presents agencies a valuable opportunity to work with the world’s technology leaders — companies often beyond the reach of smaller agencies.
Topaz Partners is a good example. Over the past year, our relatively small group of PR pros has had an opportunity to work with tech leaders like CNET, Broadcom, UGS and Thomson Financial –- all of whom acquired companies being supported by Topaz.
So we say, bring on the big guys. Besides, there’ll never be a shortage of new and innovative companies on the Massachusetts landscape.
