One in the win column for Topaz

July 10th, 2006 by Susan

Here at Topaz we do things outside of work and actually take the time to have fun, can you believe that? Last night we played in our first softball game against MatterNow PR. Sorry guys, we creamed you 15-3 but you played well.

Next up…Schwartz. Watch out.

A buddy at Matter Communications claimed that we were talking smack about them behind their backs. Well true, but you didn’t really ask to see our e-mail recap (although I hear we have a Topaz Deep Throat feeding our justified note of kudos).

So just so we’re all on the same page, a Topaz-drafted summary of opening day for your 2006 Termites …

    In one word: Domination.

Your Topaz Termites got the 2006 season off to great start with a good ol’ fashioned ass whoopin of Matter Now Communications last night on the Newbury Green. When the dust cleared the final score was 15-3.

It was apparent that the Spring Tanning session a few weeks ago enabled the team to glide right into fine game form. Despite giving up two runs in the first inning (“here we go again…”), rookie Susan K. focused on the game at hand and pitched a gem. The outfield was nothing but solid, clogging the gaps and catching line drive after line drive. The infield was stellar, with Tony holding down first and A-Zand once again showing glimpses of greatness at short.

A total team effort from the start. Here’s how your TTs did:

Bill W. (3B) – Mastered the hot corner, played opposite field well, had the dirtiest uniform; bled.

Adam (SS) – Plugged the hole, hit foul ball in pond, took out female catcher at play at the plate; new Termite Bad Boy

Doug (CF) – Lynn-esque in center field, solid as usual at the plate; raised some eyebrows in final inning after tagging up with score 14-3

Mike Pasko (LF) – Gave team added muscle it lacked all last season; cannon arm kept runners at bay; debated English futbol lore with Adam

Fotios (2B) – Provided team with needed spunk and energy; part of a great double-play combo in the making; added yet another solid bat to the roster.

Tony (1B) – Solid at first, tagged out at second after overrunning base, but showed vintage form at plate; may be at doctor’s today

Todd (RF) – Killed rallies with great catches in outfield, luckily didn’t have to throw much, passed up karaoke opportunity

Tim (MF) – New guy held own even after late arrival, takes running start to hit ball; promises to write down directions before leaving for next game and after party

Susan K (P) – Sucked it up and pitched a complete game; one strike out (swinging); kept whining to minimum, doesn’t have a “boyfriend”

Thanks to all that showed up. Hope to see you at the next game: AUG 2 vs Schwartz in Waltham. (6:05 p.m.)

The office softball team. The bane of my existence, unless you let the team chew. :)
