Blogging as PR networking

August 1st, 2006 by Tony Sapienza

In past posts, I’ve talked about how important it is for PR folks to get involved in blogging, and there’s many ways this could/should happen — whether it is an extension of thier work as PR consultants or as a commentator on PR issues/developments (in communities like Tech PR Gems).

There’s another reason why blogging makes sense — as a networking channel. Say you’re a PR person looking to connect with potential clients, employers or media contacts — blogging provides a new avenue to capture the interest and attention of folks previously reachable primarily through networking events, email introductions, cold calls and other more traditional channels. And the opportunity to gain exposure — and engage in a dialogue — with a broader audience is much greater through blogging.

Yet another reason for PR professionals to jump on the blogging bandwagon.

I completely agree. Probably because what you described was the primary message I tried to convey in my own job search. Haha.

I think college grads are getting frustrated with how little they can communicate through a resume and a cover letter and turning to the web, weather through building a website, or a blog, to convince HR directors of their qualifications.

Plus being able to take advantage of blogging communities through commenting and building readership is a whole new level of professional networking. Hey, it got me an internship at Louis Paul & Partners.
