Second Thursday in Second Life meeting recap
November 14th, 2006 by Doug
I wanted to point our reader’s to Kami’s wrap-up of the Second Thursday in Second Life meeting on Nov. 9. The meeting gave PR folks a chance to meet Daniel Terdimen of C|Net, along with other cultural technology; Ute Hicks, editor of Second Life Business Magazine; and Miller Copeland, editor of In the Grid, and ask them what kind of stories they cover, how to get in touch with them, etc (They all said “email” which I thought was interesting, though at least one was wrestling with the idea of Second Life office hours, such as Adam Reuters has).
Kami came away with the conclusion that PR in SL is very similar to PR in real life, especially as it concerns what has news value. I agree, but SL Business and In The Grid in particular are publications specifically launched for Second Life, which is important to note.
Kami also posted a cleaned-up transcript- which is nice, but my asynchronous real-time copy included some things she left out or didn’t get. Many of these show the clunkiness of a real-time chat, of the SL program itself, and the newness of some of the users.
(Update: Bryan Person put up the not-cleaned-up transcript. Less linear, but perhaps more entertaining to read, including the highlights I pulled out below.)
A few gems:
“Now I see your pants Doug”
“yeah, just don’t be a dumb-ass like me and drive a Nissan onto the sim”
“ok brb relogging”
“Espresso Demi Tasse whispers: Now THAT will open your eyes!”
“Shel Holtz is here, thank god I wore a suit”
“Dan, they let you in the Teen Grid?”
“Get a congressman to cover the teen grid…”
“is there a way to remove the names from above people’s heads?”
