"Tangled up in tubes"
January 19th, 2007 by Todd Van Hoosear
This is just a few months late, and it’s a bit of a non-sequitur, etc. etc., but a subtle reference by Boston’s own Steve Garfield in a recent email inspired me–thanks Steve, and sorry to everyone else, especially the good senator and one of America’s greatest poets:
“Tangled Up in Tubes”
By Todd Van Hoosear
(Sung to the tune of “Tangled Up in Blue,” with regrets to Dylan)
Early one mornin’ the computer beeped,
While I was sittin on the john
Now I’m wondrin’ how to make it stop
I can’t even turn the damn thing on.
The other day, a staffer told me
There’s nothin’ that I can do.
People keep sendin’ those internets,
Soon nothing will get through.
As I got up, and stepped away
Heading for the office cubes,
That familiar sound inspired me
Lord knows I’m well past due:
Those internets are…
Tangled up in tubes.
Fellow politicos don’t get this stuff,
It’s up to me to put it right.
If you fill the tubes with internets
They’ll get backed up real real tight.
So when you’re waiting for your mails
The decision is clear as day.
You can sit and wait for your internets,
Or you can turn around and say:
When I log on and check my mail
And nothing does get through,
I’ll call my friendly senator
Legislation he’ll pursue.
Those internets are…
Tangled up in tubes.
