That was awesome Todd - I love Topaz’ first, best and only videocast!

Listening, and reading, the naming debate I thought of this option - PRactitioner. As that is what we do, and what we are trying to do, I thought it fit.

Christopher Penn of Financial Aid Podcast threw out a few suggestions (based on available domain names). Thanks Chris!

Topaz Partners has created a new agency podcast. This is great news and demonstrates the advances Topaz is making in staying on top of the latest methods of publicity. All employees of the agency have been asked for their suggestions in naming this new podcast. While initially told that the Topaz blog was supposed to include topics that “intersect the worlds of public relations and technology,” I personally do not see how naming Topaz’s podcast offers any thought to the issues of technology relates public relations issues.
Did Apple post the names that its engineers and marketing executives brainstormed about the iPod or the new iPhone? No. So why should Topaz do this? Well, in a sense it does throw out the ideas to non-Topaz bloggers, which could be a good thing… So here goes… Even though I don’t think this blog really has anything to do with technology PR issues, here are a few of my random suggestions for the Topaz podcast. Feel free to shoot ‘em down, rip them apart and add your own suggestions.
Topazocast
Pazcast
Topodcast (we’d all be Topodocasters)
PubliCast (as in merging publicity and podcast)
PRodcast
PressCast
MediaCast (this one must be trademarked somewhere)

Wiz, love the suggestions. As I mentioned in my video, sharing the thought process behind the podcast naming is in the spirit of social media. It’s part of what I like to call PRaznost: the new pr transparency. Okay, it’ll never float as a name, but it’s appropriate!
PRH, good suggestion as well.
Keep ‘em coming!

BTW, sorry for the long video. I got a little carried away. Promise it won’t happen again…

I just figured out who Todd looks like in this video. It’s been bugging me all morning. Why, none other than Patrick MacNee, John Steed of the Avengers!

Holy crap Doug–scary!

I think you should call the podcast “Evil Dead 4, The Revenge of Todd.”

Oh, my goodness. This was hilarious., Tood! I haven’t even listened to the actual episode yet, but PRickcast kind of has a nice ring to it

Gentlemen,
Break out of the limiting xCast descriptor. Don’t be fettered by convention.
PRGems
It ties into your overall theme and name and also leads people to beleive there will automatically be wisdom in the podcast content.

In the interest of full disclosure, and to give credit where credit is due, I swiped the music from the best PC game I’ve played since Half-Life 2 came out: Strange Attractors. The music is by |.\\.
Thanks to everyone who contributed. I’m sure Adam, Doug and Tim will have something to say abut the name on the next podcast I won’t be a part of…

I know I’m weighing in several days late on this (blame it on those pesky clients) but I did have a few thoughts on the name – and the inaugural presentation of the Topaz podcast.
First off, loved the banter of the early episodes – especially the conversations around the diaper-wearing astronaut lady. While it was all fun, I’d like to see more of a connection to PR issues. Sorry if I’m being too serious here, but there is a way to make this entertaining and relevant. Looking forward to more – and joining in the conversation.
As for the music…not that you asked, but I fall into the “let’s keep looking” camp. It sounds cheesy – and while cheesy can be cool, in this case, it doesn’t do it for me. I’d be happy to share some suggestions – not sure about copyright rules, but I can think of loads of popular tunes that reflect the spirit of this venture.
As for the name, Prodcast is OK. While it brings back memories of a rotten Ford car of the 90s (I still recall stand-up comics poking fun at the Probe), I like the attempt to bring the world of PR and podcasts in the name. PRodcast was my first choice, but I see it’s been taken (then again, “prod” generates as many giggles as “probe”).
My favorite “PR+” names are PRattleCast (one Todd pulled out of Websters) and PRatterCast (PR+chatter).
As for Topaz related names, I like PazCast (look how successful Ted was for United Airlines).

Hey talent,
Should we be worried that people are more interested in the name than the content?
Here are my three last entries:
PR Probers
Topaz Probes PR
Doug is Funnycast
The music needs no defending - tell me you weren’t humming it all weekend. It’s entered for next year’s Grammy (as long as we can dig up Andy Summers from the please retire again Police to play it).
Next week’s show #3 will have a challenge that will scare the heck out of podcast theme songs everywhere!

I think indefensible is the word you were looking for re: the music.
I agree that I would love to hear more comments on content, format, sound quality (yes, we still sound like crap, we are working on equipment necessities).
