PRobecast – The Topaz Partners PR Podcast – Episode 4
February 24th, 2007 by Todd Van Hoosear
Welcome to the fourth PRobecast, the Topaz Partners podcast.
The panel is Tim Allik, Todd Van Hoosear, Adam Zand and a short, but special, drop-in from Queen of Spin (aka Susan Koutalakis).
This was an amazing week in PR (we almost rolled out an early podcast, but Tom Brady started to bore the heck out of us) – so much to choose from:
• We take to the ice-bound runways with JetBlue and their apparent PR recovery
• Look at the bright side of Deval Patrick’s “Pimp My Ride”
• Conclusively prove that Dilbert is/is not funny, while saluting Scott Adams (who is invited to comment anytime on this blog)
• Invite folks to the Social Media Club Boston event on March 15 looking at the generation gap in guerilla marketing (I’m still drinking Dr. Pepper)
• Admit to using emoticons ;-] while telling the sad tale of Worcester’s inventor of the smiley face (Have a Nice Day)
• We determine nothing is happening in Boston this weekend so we’ll just be listening to the wonderful outro music.

As the pseudo-host this week, I think we found our groove (even though the sound quality is bad and early downloaders missed the theme music). On Friday, I’m off to Palm Desert and Vegas (for work:->, but look forward to being in the audience.
Todd (thanks for posting my witty show notes) – the only 1980s PR reference you missed was the Bhopal disaster ;-]

I gotta say that I take some offense to the racist (intentionally or not) “pimp my ride” reference. The Herald and some of the talk show hosts were guilty of playing up the “pimp” reference but we never touched on it in the podcast. Maybe we should have, but 15 minutes is 15 minutes.

Tim, I thought about that one too. No offense intended – just an attempt at a joke to get attention in my show notes.
In the meantime, I believe we have met our match in the pantheon of videocasting – Fitzy’s Wicked Pissah Webcast:

Adam, Boston.com gets the award for “highest cringe factor” for its “Cadillac Dreamin’” audio slideshow. “Governor Patrick isn’t the first man to love a Cadillac,” it intones. “Here’s a look at other Cadillacs and the men who love them.” I’m a big fan of Boston.com. Hell, I worked there for 8 years. But c’mon peeps!
