C ME @ CTIA!

March 1st, 2007 by Peter

As mentioned in my earlier post “Going Mobile,” Topaz Partners recently experienced a dramatic rise in the number of companies it now represents from the mobile market. The technologies which these companies offer range from traditional mobile enterprise and infrastructure solutions to mobile search, mobile music and social networking.

Like practically every other PR practitioner out there who represents a mobile technology company, I am pitching media and analysts in an effort to schedule a briefing for our clients at the 2007 CTIA Wireless conference at the end of March. Having said this, the risk of potentially annoying members of the media is pretty high, especially when you have multiple clients to pitch. So how does one go about tactfully pitching upwards of six mobile clients for meetings without a) pissing off the reporter, or b) potentially bumping one client to get the reporter to focus of another client?

In PR, we’re always told to keep things brief and precise. At no other time are these words of wisdom important than now…Rather than call a reporter or analyst multiple times, I would suggest that the best route is to send them a note briefly listing what each of your clients have to offer in terms of news at the show and their booth number. While follow up by phone is also important, the basis on which you get that appointment rests on your personal relationship with the reporter or analyst, the sexiness of your client’s product/service…and pure luck.

Best of luck to all of you PR pros spending your time in the coming weeks pitching press and analysts for CTIA meetings! For anyone else going to the CTIA show with the title of “reporter” or “analyst,” you know where to find me!
