PRobecast #18: NikonD80/blogola?, presidential candidates do social media,
June 1st, 2007 by Doug
Welcome to the PRobecast, Episode 18 of Topaz Partners’ weekly PR-related podcast (that’s right, 18. Episode 17 is officially the “lost episode” of PRobecast).
This week, Doug Haslam, Tim Allik and Adam Zand discuss:
- Introducing our new, user-friendly URL: PRobecast.com
- The Nikon D80 blogger outreach campaign. Good, ethical PR or blogola?
- “Flea” unmasked. Doctor/defendant in malpractice case unmasked. Anonymous blogging, and watch what you blog about.
- Presidential Social Media Part I: John Edwards campaign makes good after missteps in Twitter outreach.
- Presidential Social Media Part II: Hillary Clinton asks the public to choose a theme song. Plus, we rate the songs that made the cut (but Doug forgot to mention his own write-in choice).
- Melcrum’s new Communicator’s Network joins MyRagan in the PR communities space.
- Products of the week! Microsoft Surface, iTunes Plus, iTunes U.
- What to do this weekend: Red Sox fans welcome A-Rod to Boston, Human Giant twitters MTV Movie Awards, and an early Belmont pick from Adam (Tank).

Gentlemen,
Your examples of “good” and “ethical” are ludicrous.
For “good” you link to a post where Jaffe, a recipient of the blogola and a person whose livelihood is based on selling similar blogola programs, uses his kid to shield criticism. Hello! Are you really not getting where that not only crosses ethical boundaries but ensures one a direct ticket to Hell?
As far as “ethical,” Ochman’s stupid test aside (see http://tinyurl.com/32s8px ), it would only be ethical now that she’s apparently completed her test if she gave the camera back. Hundred bucks says she doesn’t.
C’mon. These issues are not that hard.
Regards,
- Amanda

Would you prefer i used “pro” and “con” for the hyperlinks? Perhaps that would have been.
We didn’t actually refer to the individuals in the podcast, as I’m sure you heard. I wish the issues were easy– we wouldn’t have to discuss them then. Not black and white I’m afraid– ever.

No, Doug. Why we are discussing them is that the issues are black and white but still for some they need to be discussed. THAT’S the problem.
Respectfully,
- Amanda
