We try and we try and we try

June 12th, 2007 by Susan

As PR professionals it’s our job to get coverage for our clients’ news, whether big or small, and to know the media we are pitching. Sometimes we get stuck in a catch-22. For example, you fight tooth and nail to get a media opportunity only to find out that it’s set to publish two whole days before your news release is going out…

What’s a PR professional to do?

The only thing we can do; ask the reporter to hold the news. If they won’t or can’t hold your news, you do the only thing you can do; go against every fiber of your being and say “We’ll have to pass.” Secretly, you clench you teeth as you say or even write it because it was the perfect opportunity. On occasion, you get a “Sheesh, your clients love to make things difficult for me! : )”

At least you know you can laugh about it, or you can blog about it.

Guessing it takes a little bit of the energy level out of the team getting coverage for the release too. Probably good to show those results to the client next time the issue comes up.
