September 13th, 2007 by Todd Van Hoosear

Measurement remains an elusive goal of marketers everywhere, but progress is being made. Join Patricia Fennessey, Diego Sanchez and Katie Paine on September 25th for a discussion on where we’ve come and where we’re heading:

Whether you are using Print, Online or Social Media, you want to ensure you are not only reaching target audiences, but generating the image and getting the results that will impact your company’s bottom line.

PRSA Boston has assembled a panel of industry experts to speak on the always-contentious topic of measurement…

  • What are the measurement “best practices” that should be part of every PR program?

  • What are companies currently doing to analyze and measure the effectiveness of their media campaigns?
  • Which among the plethora of Web metrics tools is most effective depending on your company’s needs?
  • How can you best measure the impact of blogs, micro-blogs and social networking services?
  • What media analysis and measurement tools work best for smaller budgets? For larger budgets?

DEMO or TechCrunch40? Which is the go-to show for launching a tech startup?

September 13th, 2007 by Doug

A former colleague (hi Terry!) posed a great question to me the other day:

DEMO or TechCrunch40?

I answered, then decided to pose the question on Twitter. From there, both Todd Defren and I posted the question on Facebook (the details of the technical troubles both of us had doing so will remain unchronicled here).

So, which is it?

First, my gut answer: DEMO. I’m an old-fashioned guy believe it or not, and the name recognition and credibility that DEMO and Chris Shipley has earned through the years counts for a lot.* TechCrunch is a formidable brand, but that is more recent history, the show itself is new, and I think it just remains to be proved.

That said, TechCrunch 40 has a drool-worthy roster of Internet kingpins coming to the event, including the organizers, Jason Calacanis and Michael Arrington, Marc Andreeson, Chris Anderson, and others.

But– M.C. Hammer? Was DJ Jazzy Jeff unavailable? (I know, the Hammer is doing cool Web-related stuff, but…)

One argument put forth in TC40’s favor is that Web 2.0 companies should go there rather than DEMO. However, I think you will find a lot of Web 2.0 technology among the broader range of technologies at DEMO (I am making some assumptions here).

I am curious to see how the TechCrunch 40 event is received, and how it grows in the future, but for now, DEMO is the one to beat in my opinion.

So, what about you — want to launch your client at DEMO or the Tech Crunch40?

*I’m not just kissing up because Topaz has a client going to DEMO
