Charting the future of social media
July 9th, 2008 by Todd Van Hoosear
Today the Social Media Club announced the formation of an interim board to chart the future of the organization. The 42 41 board members (we’re trying desperately to come up with a clever Douglas Adams reference) represent, if I may say so, the cream of the crop of social media thought leaders.
I first got involved with the Social Media Club in 2006 when I saw the great potential, and the need, for an organization that helps people be responsible and informed citizens in a world where lines between online and offline, print and web, real life and virtual life and old and new media are quickly blurring. I’m honored to have been asked to join this group of social media pros, and look forward to helping Chris, Kristie and the team build a lasting legacy for the Social Media Club.
I look forward to a bright future!
Here’s a video from Chris Heuer. Push his nose to see it:

OK, great, but what are you and the other 41 going to do? Sorry, but it all reads like a standard press release (which it is) with some interesting tags.
I’m fine with Social Media Club, Boston (which you and I helped found) just “ruling” and putting on great events locally with help from Liz, GregPC, Melanie, Sandy, Brian Cavoli, others and sponsors. The chapter works because it puts on great events in convenient locations and does it usually for free.
So go for it Todd - make a difference - but don’t forget about your roots and how SMC-Boston is THE flagship franchise in this until now (?) confusing, disjointed, but energetic and impressive organization.
P.S. You know I love you, as well as the social media world you virtualize in, but your blog title is a bit MUCH. Simple goals, humility and some actual worker bees will be the only way for the organization to remain relevant and grow.

FYI, you can now vote for who you’d like the 42nd board member to be.
