A quick clarification since I know the presentation moved very briskly.

I used the quality/quantity analogy more towards your linking strategy than keywords - but it could be applied here as well.  It is important to research and drill down in selecting a keyword strategy - per page (pr, post etc) - that will provide the maximum benefit. This may not always be a broad term or phrase and it certainly depends on your objectives for creating a piece of content from the start.
