Wall Street Rubberneckers

While walking through Manhattan yesterday I came across an interesting sight — a crowd gathered on the sidewalk pointing cameras skyward. The MetLife blimp? Some daredevil scaling a skyscraper? A blog-challenged PR person stepping out on the ledge? Nope — these folks were snapping photos of the Lehman Brothers headquarters — a panorama of jumbo LED screens wrapped around their building on Seventh Avenue. While PR folks aren’t necessarily parked out on the street outside Lehman offices, we should be watching this situation closely — the financial industry has long been a strategic market for technology products and services. While those in the financial space — and companies like Lehman in particular — have much more on the line (like their jobs), all of us in tech PR have stake in this. Fortunately, the products and services tech companies provide have helped — and can help — financial services firms be stronger and more competitive.

Sadly, today the Lehman green is gone. The 7th Avenue building now has blue signs with Barclay Capital logos.
