Twitter Smackdown! Kara Swisher Vs. Erick Schonfeld
April 3rd, 2009 by Tim Allik
TechCrunch reported yesterday that Google was in late-stage talks to purchase Twitter. The Wall Street Journal’s Kara Swisher subsequently reported that no, that isn’t true, that in fact Google is not in talks to acquire Twitter, that the two are working out a minor collaboration agreement and that’s all.
We could leave it at that, but the most amusing part of this story is the running tit for tat on Twitter between these two rivals (for whom I proclaim my utmost respect, naturally).
You can catch it in real time but here are a few screen grabs for your entertainment.
Here are some arrows from @Kara:

And here are some zings from TechCrunch’s Erick Schonfeld @erickschonfeld

Enjoy!

I give the win to Swisher.
But I’m not sure I’d call that a smackdown. Sounds like a vigorous disagreement with some funny one-liners – perfect for Twitter.

George, I’ll never pass up the opportunity to use the word “smackdown” in polite company, but thanks for reading (and commenting)!
