Commenting on Stories Online — An Opportunity to Make a Point…and a Friend

Last week, Topaz sent out its latest e-newsletter, and this focused on a topic important to all of us in PR and/or the tech space — self-publishing. Social media has opened many new opportunities for PR professionals and technology companies to present their perspectives and updates. The tactics outlined in this newsletter can be a valuable complement to other communications activities — and often self-publishing is a necessary srtategy given the changes the media is experiencing. Speaking of the media, one channel that is becoming more of an opportunity to PR and tech companies is commenting on articles online. In the past, a company that hoped to add its point of view to an already published article had to resort to a letter to the editor or a follow-up pitch to a reporter. Today, media outlets not only present that opportunity — increasingly, they’re actually encouraging readers to comment. It’s a great way to raise visibility with other readers and with reporters as well.
