Cloud Computing — Stop 2 on Weeklong Trek Through Mass. Tech Landscape

December 11th, 2009 by Tony Sapienza

Part two of a weeklong trek through our region’s tech landscape brought me to the world of cloud computing. I attended Thursday’s Cloud3 forum — held at Microsoft’s R&D offices in Cambridge — which brought together companies, government officials, educators and others for a lively and insightful discussion around one of today’s hottest technology trends. Some companies that stood out for me: Cloudswitch, Litl, Pixily and Sonian. We also heard from big-guns like EMC and Microsoft…and about the progress being made on the Holyoke High Performance Computing Center. Kudos to Xconomy and emcee Wade Roush, who organized the event with help from the MassTLC and MITX. As someone mentioned, this is where technology will be centered in the years ahead — as cloud computing does for hardware what open source did for software — and it’s great to see that Massachusetts is in the thick of it.
